Joji Kamio (Joji)
Bilingual
Joji is originally from Shibuya, Japan. He moved to Honolulu, Hawaii at a very young age. Joji was introduced to yoga in August 2015 after a serious accident, he was told he would need surgery to recover. In an unexpected twist of faith, his plastic surgeon suggested he start standing on his head for 30-60 seconds a day to speed up his recovery process. After the first week of attending yoga classes, he was on the verge of quitting. Looking for a holistic lifestyle approach to compliment his pain management program, Joji kept practicing and found a sense of inner peace and a different outlook on the world. The challenges of yoga have instilled inner contentment in a journey of self-discovery through his daily yoga practice. His commitment to his yoga practice has brought about a quest for knowledge relating yoga to health.
Joji received and completed his 200 hour registered yoga teacher certificate in April 2016 and a Extensions Program certificate in June 2016. He has also studied with Bryan Kest (a original founder of power yoga) and is currently studying under Dorian Wright (Founder of Poweryoga Hawaii) while having taken numerous workshops and classes with master yogi Yogesh Varun.
When he is not on his mat, Joji can be found in the ocean, in his art studio or traveling the globe for creative and spiritual inspiration. Joji is very thankful and grateful for being introduced to yoga, which he describes a a moving meditation. It is his wish to share the what he has learned with others who have had injuries or whom want to learn more about themselves through the practice of yoga.
Joji brings a lot of his personal experiences into his classes by offering layers and modifications for varying fitness levels and for those who may have specific injuries or needs in their bodies. He has a strong focus on safety, adjustments and anatomical alignments which he brings into his classes with groovy upbeat music. Joji loves to practice inversions and arm balances (credit to his plastic surgeon) to build strength using body weight safely in yoga poses to increase endurance and strength training. When you attend one of Joji's classes, let him be your guide to your own yogic journey and be prepared to have fun, sweat and challenge yourself with a smile.
His yoga philosophy is simple, “Let your movements flow like water on and off your mat
